Stacking the Shelves

Stacking The Shelves is all about sharing the books we are adding to our shelves, whether they be physical or digital. This includes books bought (my wife would say I buy too many), borrowed (a rare occurrence), and received for review (which I’m trying to reign in).

New Acquisitions: Paperback Treasures

Just the one new purchase this week . . .

Somehow it’s been 4 1/2 years since I lost my mind over the delusions of Michael R. Fletcher’s Beyond Redemption. How I lost track of him I have no idea, but I’m excited to catch up with Smoke and Stone.

New Acquisitions: Digital Freebies

A pair of free collections this week. Sorcery & Warlocks I grabbed primarily for Fire & Ice by Patty Jansen, The Prince’s Man by Deborah Jay, and Muse by Kylie Quillinan, while it was Chrissy Peebles’ Eternal Vows and Kristen Middleton’s Wicked that caught my eye in the Arcane Forest Anthology.

Review Titles

A pair of digital review titles this week, one of which it seems like I’ve been anticipating for years, and the other of which just sounds like way too much fun.

The Broken Heavens
by Kameron Hurley
Publication Date: Jan 14, 2020

The bloodsoaked conclusion to Kameron Hurley’s epic fantasy masterpiece – the Worldbreaker Saga – is unleashed.

The Dhai nation has broken apart under the onslaught of the Tai Mora, invaders from a parallel world. With the Dhai in retreat, Kirana, leader of the Tai Mora, establishes a base in Oma’s temple and instructs her astrologers to discover how they can use the ancient holy place to close the way between worlds.

With the connected worlds ravaged by war and Oma ascendant, only one world can survive. Who will be sacrificed, and who will be saved, when the heavens finally break?

Not Your Average Love Spell
by Barbara Ann Wright
Publication Date: Nov 12, 2019

The Knights of Flame need to move their army across the country to defeat a brutal enemy. Tricky, as the knights have outlawed magic. They hire a researcher, Camille, to fix the problem and assign the dashing Major Sydney to help. If Camille and Sydney can keep their hands off each other long enough, they can surely come up with a solution.

Rowena the Hawk is a witch of great power and stubbornness equal to that of an entire phalanx of knights. Exiled from home, she has only her construct Ember for company until the most beautiful woman she’s ever seen dares her to save the world.

Wanting to cuddle one moment and strangle each other the next, the four women are the kingdom’s only hope. Everyone’s probably doomed…
