New Acquisitions: Paperback Treasures

Just two new arrivals in the mailbox this week…

Mutineer – the first Kris Longknife book by Mike Shepherd – pairs with books 2 and 3 that arrived earlier in the month. I believe there’s 19 in the series at this point (yikes!), but I’ll start small with the opening trilogy.

The Four Forges is the first Elven Ways book by Jenna Rhodes, a series I have as e-books, but one I wanted to sit and enjoy in paperback – and $3 for a new copy was too good to pass up.

Review Titles

An interesting week on the review front with a nice mix of titles, starting with a pair of anxiously awaited approvals.

I’m a huge fan of Barbara Ann Wright (Not Your Average Love Spell was one of my favorite reads of last year), so Lady of Stone [Sept 15, 2020] was an automatic request when I saw it on NetGalley. Could Sylph’s ability and Thana’s magical mystery be related to a new kind of crystal being smuggled into the kingdom or a possible pyradisté coup? They’ll have to work together and overcome their biases, admit their feelings, and maybe surrender to their fierce desire before time runs out…

Broken Reign [Sept 15, 2020] is actually the second book of The Odium Trilogy by Sam Ledel, but I’m going to break my rule about saga and dive right in. Fate brought Jastyn and Aurelia together, but their budding relationship is tested as obstacles both fae and human stand between them and the cure they desperately seek. Will their new love be enough to carry them through what lies ahead?

Kevin was a new request from Marilize Roos, a very different sort of read from Michael (which I enjoyed earlier this summer), but one that caught my eye with the promise of an FFM historical Regency romance, set in British-occupied Cape Town, South Africa.

Rangers of Yeon came to me courtesy of April Garrus, a change of genre from the sci-fi of the Tigress of Futan saga to high fantasy adventure with two women facing-ever increasing odds. Alone in forbidden landscapes, they have only their bond, and whether they succeed or fail, they will do so together.

Deeply Hidden Secrets is courtesy of M.C. Questgend, a dear friend who sets me up with everything she writes. This one is a darker tale about manipulation, humiliation, murder and pure ecstasy, featuring a bullied crossdresser who is molded into a strong, confident, and sometimes ruthless transgendered woman.

New Acquisitions: Digital Titles

A pair of digital downloads this week that caught my eye…

Veil Rising is the first Star Guild Saga book by Brandon Ellis, an explosive series kick-off that thrills like Indiana Jones and twists like Total Recall with an archaeologist who decodes an ancient Sumerian tablet that unveils the truth of alien invaders and a looming galactic rebellion.

Without Hesitation is the first Beyond Earth book by Talia Jager, set a thousand years in the future, with a starship commander tasked with abducting an Empress, only to be taken back by her beauty before realizing she’s met her match.
