I Can’t Wait for… The Blacktongue Thief by Christopher Buehlman

Can’t-Wait Wednesday is a weekly meme hosted over at Wishful Endings to spotlight and discuss the books we’re excited about and have yet to read. Generally they’re books that have yet to be released, but not necessarily. It’s based on Waiting on Wednesday, which was originally hosted at Breaking the Spine.

My pick for this week is a book that’s being compared to Kings of the Wyld, complete with a handmaiden of the goddess of death searching for her queen …

Title: The Blacktongue Thief

Author: Christopher Buehlman

Publisher: Tor Books

Publication Date: May 25, 2021

Genres: Epic Fantasy

Shelves: Female-fronted

A voicey-as-hell, standout fantasy debut for fans of Nicholas Eames’ Kings of the Wyld and Joe Abercrombie’s The Blade Itself.

Kinch Na Shannack owes the Takers Guild a small fortune for his education as a thief, which includes (but is not limited to) lock-picking, knife-fighting, wall-scaling, fall-breaking, lie-weaving, trap-making, plus a few small magics. His debt has driven him to lie in wait by the old forest road, planning to rob the next traveler that crosses his path.

But today, Kinch Na Shannack has picked the wrong mark.

Galva is a knight, a survivor of the brutal goblin wars, and handmaiden of the goddess of death. She is searching for her queen, missing since a distant northern city fell to giants.

Unsuccessful in his robbery and lucky to escape with his life, Kinch now finds his fate entangled with Galva’s. Common enemies and uncommon dangers force thief and knight on an epic journey where goblins hunger for human flesh, krakens hunt in dark waters, and honor is a luxury few can afford

  1. For a moment I panicked because I thought I had missed the cover reveal, lol. I’m hugely excited for a new Beuhlman book, although I’m a little bummed he’s writing fantasy and not horror.

  2. I haven’t tried this author before, but I do like the sound of this. Galva especially! I hope you enjoy this one when you read it. Have a great week!
